Ele \u00e9 o segundo metal de transi\u00e7\u00e3o, possui n\u00famero at\u00f4mico igual a 22, massa molar igual a 47,90 g\/mol e s\u00edmbolo qu\u00edmico, &#8220;Ti&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">O <strong>tit\u00e2nio<\/strong> foi descoberto em 1791, por William Gregor, no min\u00e9rio ilmenita (FeTiO<sub>3<\/sub>), ap\u00f3s tratamento com \u00e1cido clor\u00eddrico e \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico concentrado, obtendo o TiO<sub>2<\/sub> em uma forma impura.<br \/>\nM. H. Klaproth, quatro anos depois, redescobriu o elemento, de forma independente, obtendo o que chamamos de rutilo (TiO<sub>2<\/sub>).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Em 1910, Matthew A. Hunter obteve o elemento na forma pura, aquecendo TiCl<sub>4<\/sub> com s\u00f3dio met\u00e1lico \u00e0 700 &#8211; 800\u00b0C.<br \/>\nO seu nome, <strong>tit\u00e2nio<\/strong>, \u00e9 derivado do grego Tit\u00e1n, da mitologia grega, filhos mitol\u00f3gicos do C\u00e9u (Uranus) e da Terra (Gaia). Eram gigantes e considerados personifica\u00e7\u00f5es das for\u00e7as da natureza. Eram em n\u00famero de doze. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pantheon.org\/articles\/t\/titans.html\">Para saber mais, clique aqui.<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Ele \u00e9 um metal s\u00f3lido, branco, prateado e muito resistente a corros\u00e3o e a impacto mec\u00e2nico. \u00c9 um metal de baixa densidade, igual a 4,5 g\/mL.<\/p>\n<h3>Ocorr\u00eancia<\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">Este elemento n\u00e3o ocorre livre na natureza. Em compostos, ocorre principalmente na forma de <strong>rutilo<\/strong> (TiO<sub>2<\/sub>) e ilmenita (FeTiO<sub>3<\/sub>). Ele \u00e9 um metal de abund\u00e2ncia significativa, sendo o nono mais abundante entre todos os elementos e o segundo mais entre os metais de transi\u00e7\u00e3o, s\u00f3 ficando atr\u00e1s do ferro.<\/p>\n<h3>Aplica\u00e7\u00f5es<\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">O <strong>tit\u00e2nio<\/strong> \u00e9 aplicado na fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o de <strong>ligas leves<\/strong> e de elevada\u00a0resist\u00eancia mec\u00e2nica, t\u00e9rmica e \u00e0 corros\u00e3o, que s\u00e3o empregadas em reatores, motores de foguetes, avi\u00f5es e autom\u00f3veis. Essas ligas tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o utilizadas na elabora\u00e7\u00e3o de pr\u00f3teses ortop\u00e9dicas amplamente utilizadas em humanos e na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de bicicletas e artefatos esportivos. As principais ligas de tit\u00e2nio s\u00e3o com metais como: <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/07\/13\/cozinhar-em-panelas-de-aluminio-e-um-problema\/\" target=\"_blank\">alum\u00ednio<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/portfolio-item\/ferro-do-ceu-ao-centro-da-terra-o-metal-mais-utilizado-pelo-homem\/\" target=\"_blank\">ferro<\/a>, van\u00e1dio, <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/07\/27\/cobalto-de-vitamina-b12-a-catalisadores-industriais\/\" target=\"_blank\">cobalto<\/a>, molibd\u00eanio e <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/11\/16\/manganes-aplicacoes-e-envolvimento-com-a-saude\/\" target=\"_blank\">mangan\u00eas<\/a>. A produ\u00e7\u00e3o de ligas met\u00e1licas \u00e9 um dos principais vetores de consumo de todo o tit\u00e2nio produzido no planeta, ficando atr\u00e1s do consumo de TiO<sub>2<\/sub>, utilizado principalmente como pigmento.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">As ligas de tit\u00e2nio possuem baixa densidade, elevada resist\u00eancia mec\u00e2nica e t\u00e9rmica, n\u00e3o apresenta propriedades magn\u00e9ticas, apresentam grande biocompatibilidade e elevada resist\u00eancia \u00e0 corros\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Estima-se que pelo menos 15% da massa de um avi\u00e3o Boeing 787 \u00e9 devido a materiais de tit\u00e2nio.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Seus compostos s\u00e3o empregados como pigmento branco para tintas, <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/08\/03\/papel-do-que-e-feito\/\" target=\"_blank\">papel<\/a>, esmaltes, borracha, <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/07\/20\/polietileno-o-que-e-onde-esta\/\" target=\"_blank\">pl\u00e1sticos<\/a>, cer\u00e2micas, tecidos, al\u00e9m de ser utilizado na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de cosm\u00e9ticos e descontamina\u00e7\u00e3o radioativa da pele. O TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0(di\u00f3xido de tit\u00e2nio &#8211; rutilo) produz ~90% de brancura, quando\u00a0o padr\u00e3o 100% \u00e9 produzido pelo MgO. Quanto mais TiO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0for usado como pigmento, maior a brancura e maior o valor do produto elaborado.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/protetor-solar-quiprocura.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"120\" align=\"right\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">O <strong>di\u00f3xido de tit\u00e2nio<\/strong> \u00e9 um dos componentes utilizados em lo\u00e7\u00f5es para prote\u00e7\u00e3o solar, conhecidas como protetores solares. Quanto mais di\u00f3xido de tit\u00e2nio e \u00f3xido de zinco, maior \u00e9 o fator de <strong>prote\u00e7\u00e3o solar<\/strong>.
