Medeiros<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Revisado\u00a0em:<\/strong>\u00a013 de julho\u00a0de 2015<\/p>\n<p>Um <strong>n\u00facleo<\/strong> de um \u00e1tomo qualquer \u00e9 constitu\u00eddo basicamente por pr\u00f3tons e n\u00eautrons. No entanto, por que alguns \u00e1tomos (ou is\u00f3topos) s\u00e3o est\u00e1veis, como o <sup>12<\/sup>C<sub>6<\/sub>, e outros, como <sup>14<\/sup>C<sub>6<\/sub>, n\u00e3o s\u00e3o est\u00e1veis e sofrem <strong>decaimento radioativo<\/strong> para se estabilizar?<\/p>\n<p>No n\u00facleo de um \u00e1tomo existem for\u00e7as (for\u00e7as nucleares) que mant\u00eam os pr\u00f3tons e n\u00eautrons ligados. Estas for\u00e7as devem ser suficientemente grandes para contrabalancear as repuls\u00f5es el\u00e9tricas decorrentes da carga positiva dos pr\u00f3tons. Uma vez que os n\u00eautrons n\u00e3o possuem carga el\u00e9trica. Isso deve ocorrer para explicar a exist\u00eancia de n\u00facleos at\u00f4micos est\u00e1veis.<\/p>\n<p>Geralmente considera-se que um <strong>n\u00facleo at\u00f4mico<\/strong> \u00e9 est\u00e1vel quando a rela\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00eautron \/ pr\u00f3ton \u00e9 igual ou pr\u00f3xima de 1 (um).<\/p>\n<p>Essa\u00a0 rela\u00e7\u00e3o pode ser bem verificada para os vinte primeiros elementos qu\u00edmicos da tabela peri\u00f3dica, ou seja, at\u00e9 o c\u00e1lcio esta rela\u00e7\u00e3o fornece valor igual ou pr\u00f3ximo da unidade.<\/p>\n<p>Quando o <strong>n\u00famero at\u00f4mico<\/strong>, ou seja, o n\u00famero de pr\u00f3tons no n\u00facleo at\u00f4mico aumenta, o valor da rela\u00e7\u00e3o n \/ p vai se tornando cada vez maior. Mas como isso \u00e9 poss\u00edvel, se o n\u00famero at\u00f4mico \u00e9 que aumenta? Bem, quando o n\u00famero at\u00f4mico aumenta, aumenta tamb\u00e9m o n\u00famero de n\u00eautrons no interior do n\u00facleo. Este aumento n\u00e3o \u00e9 linear, ou seja, quando se aumenta 1 pr\u00f3ton podem ser aumentados 1, 2, 3 ou mais n\u00eautrons. Este n\u00famero n\u00e3o \u00e9 fixo, mas cresce mais r\u00e1pido que o n\u00famero de pr\u00f3tons. Da\u00ed, um aumento na raz\u00e3o n \/ p.<\/p>\n<p>O aumento da raz\u00e3o n \/ p \u00e9 para evitar a autodestrui\u00e7\u00e3o do n\u00facleo. Entretanto, quando h\u00e1 mais de 83 pr\u00f3tons num <strong>n\u00facleo<\/strong>, nenhuma rela\u00e7\u00e3o n \/ p \u00e9 suficiente para estabilizar o n\u00facleo, pois uma grande quantidade de pr\u00f3tons ou de n\u00eautrons pode tornar um n\u00facleo inst\u00e1vel. Essa \u00e9 uma realidade que a natureza imp\u00f5e, ou seja, para um volume nuclear m\u00e1ximo \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio que haja uma determinada quantidade de pr\u00f3tons e por conseq\u00fc\u00eancia de estabilidade um n\u00famero maior de n\u00eautrons. A quantidade m\u00e1xima de pr\u00f3tons existentes em um n\u00facleo at\u00f4mico est\u00e1vel \u00e9 83. Logo, 83 \u00e9 o maior n\u00famero at\u00f4mico de um\u00a0 elemento qu\u00edmico natural est\u00e1vel, encontrado na natureza.<\/p>\n<p>Sendo assim, o bismuto, n\u00famero at\u00f4mico 83 (Z=83), \u00e9 o \u00faltimo elemento qu\u00edmico da tabela que apresenta is\u00f3topo est\u00e1vel. Todos os elementos de n\u00famero at\u00f4mico superior a 83 s\u00e3o radioativos, ou seja, eles necessitam sofrer decaimento radioativo para se estabilizar dando origem, assim, a \u00e1tomos est\u00e1veis, geralmente Pb (Z=82) e Bi (Z=83).<\/p>\n<p>Um elemento qu\u00edmico inst\u00e1vel sofre decaimento radioativo liberando radia\u00e7\u00e3o, que pode ser part\u00edcula alfa (a), part\u00edcula beta menos (b<sup>&#8211;<\/sup>) ou beta mais (b<sup>+<\/sup>). Juntamente com estas part\u00edculas, geralmente, \u00e9 liberada radia\u00e7\u00e3o gama (g).
