Ele \u00e9 o primeiro elemento deste grupo, possui n\u00famero at\u00f4mico igual igual a 8, massa molar 16,00 g\/mol e s\u00edmbolo qu\u00edmico, &#8220;<i><b>O<\/b><\/i>&#8220;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">O oxig\u00eanio \u00e9 conhecido e utilizado desde muito tempo, uma vez que \u00e9 de grande import\u00e2ncia para a vida, seja na forma de compostos como a \u00e1gua, H<sub>2<\/sub>O, ou g\u00e1s oxig\u00eanio, O<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">No entanto, a &#8220;descoberta&#8221; do oxig\u00eanio s\u00f3 ocorreu no s\u00e9culo XVIII. Geralmente, a descoberta deste elemento \u00e9 atribu\u00edda a Joseph Priestley, em 1774, no entanto, h\u00e1 muitas controv\u00e9rsia no assunto, pois Antoine Lavoisier, tamb\u00e9m obteve o g\u00e1s que Priestley inicialmente obteve a partir do \u00f3xido de merc\u00fario, que por sua vez, foi obtido da calcina\u00e7\u00e3o do metal.<br \/>\nO fato \u00e9 que Priestley n\u00e3o sabia, de in\u00edcio, que havia descoberto o oxig\u00eanio, ele acreditava que havia obtido o \u00f3xido nitroso. E foi Lavoisier que mostrou que o g\u00e1s produzido no tratamento do \u00f3xido de merc\u00fario com \u00e1cido n\u00edtrico seguido da decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o do nitrato por calor, era oxig\u00eanio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">O seu nome foi dado por <strong>Lavoisier<\/strong>, chamando-o de princ\u00edpio acidificante, ou do grego, <i>principe oxygine<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Em 1772, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quiprocura.net\/biografias\/scheele.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carl Scheele<\/a>, de forma independente, analisando o ar atmosf\u00e9rico, observou que o oxig\u00eanio era uma mistura de suas partes, no entanto, ele n\u00e3o divulgou seus resultados.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"><u><b>Ocorr\u00eancia<\/b><\/u><br \/>\nO oxig\u00eanio ocorre livre na natureza, na forma de <strong>g\u00e1s oxig\u00eanio<\/strong> (O<sub>2<\/sub>) e <strong>g\u00e1s oz\u00f4nio<\/strong> (O<sub>3<\/sub>). Em compostos, ele ocorre na forma de \u00e1gua (H<sub>2<\/sub>O) e combinado com diversos outros elementos, formando compostos, tais como: \u00f3xidos, carbonatos, nitratos, prote\u00ednas, carboidratos, entre tantos outros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"><u><b>Aplica\u00e7\u00f5es<br \/>\n<\/b><\/u>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 O <strong>g\u00e1s oxig\u00eanio<\/strong> \u00e9 muito importante na <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/07\/08\/metabolismo-precisamos-de-energia\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>respira\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0de muitos seres vivos, al\u00e9m de ser usado como comburente. J\u00e1 o <strong>oz\u00f4nio<\/strong> tem grande import\u00e2ncia na chamada camada de oz\u00f4nio, respons\u00e1vel por &#8220;filtrar&#8221; (absorver) os raios ultravioletas provenientes do Sol.
