Ele se encontra logo abaixo do ars\u00eanio.<\/p>\n<p>O seu nome deriva do latim <strong>antimonium<\/strong> (anti \u2013 oposto a;\u00a0 monium \u2013 condi\u00e7\u00f5es isoladas).<\/p>\n<p>Compostos de antim\u00f4nio s\u00e3o usados desde a antiguidade. \u00c9 datado de 4000 a.C. o uso de compostos de antim\u00f4nio em um vaso raro de Chaldean. H\u00e1 tamb\u00e9m cita\u00e7\u00f5es de uso de compostos como o sulfeto de<strong> antim\u00f4nio<\/strong> em medicamentos e outros\u00a0 em cosm\u00e9ticos que eram usados para tingimento dos olhos por mulheres, isso a pelo menos 2000 anos atr\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>Em 1492, Bas\u00edlio Valentim, foi o primeiro a descrever um m\u00e9todo de obten\u00e7\u00e3o de antim\u00f4nio, utilizando m\u00e9todos alqu\u00edmicos. Isso foi publicado em 1707, por N. L\u00e9mery.<\/p>\n<p>O Sb \u00e9 um metal e ocorre, principalmente, na forma de estibinita (Sb<sub>2<\/sub>S<sub>3<\/sub>), que est\u00e1 presente\u00a0em grandes quantidades na China, na \u00c1frica do Sul,\u00a0 no M\u00e9xico, na Bol\u00edvia e tamb\u00e9m no Chile. Outros sulfetos que ocorrem s\u00e3o: a ulmanita (NiSbS), a livingstonita (HgSb<sub>4<\/sub>S<sub>8<\/sub>), a tetrahedrita (Cu<sub>3<\/sub>SbS<sub>3<\/sub>), a calcostibita\u00a0 (CuSbS<sub>2<\/sub>) e a jamesonita (FePb<sub>4<\/sub>Sb<sub>6<\/sub>S<sub>14<\/sub>).<\/p>\n<p>O antim\u00f4nio\u00a0 tamb\u00e9m possui formas alotr\u00f3picas, nas cores cinza, amarela e negra, dos quais o cinza \u00e9 met\u00e1lico e est\u00e1vel \u00e0 temperatura ambiente. A forma\u00a0 negra \u00e9 chamada de \u201cantim\u00f4nio explosivo\u201d, sua estrutura \u00e9 desconhecida e converte-se violentamente em antim\u00f4nio cinza quando raspada.\u00a0\u00a0 A forma cinza \u00e9 um condutor el\u00e9trico fraco, enquanto as outras formas s\u00e3o n\u00e3o condutoras.<\/p>\n<p>Os estados de oxida\u00e7\u00e3o 3+ e o 5+ s\u00e3o os mais importantes para o antim\u00f4nio (Sb): o 3+ \u00e9 encontrado no Sb<sub>4<\/sub>O<sub>6<\/sub> e o 5+ \u00e9 encontrado no Sb<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>5<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<h3>Aplica\u00e7\u00f5es do Antim\u00f4nio:<\/h3>\n<p>O <strong>antim\u00f4nio<\/strong>\u00a0\u00e9 empregado em ligas met\u00e1licas e tamb\u00e9m em <strong>semicondutores<\/strong>. Alguns de seus compostos tamb\u00e9m possuem aplica\u00e7\u00e3o\u00a0como pigmento na cor amarela.<\/p>\n<p>O tri\u00f3xido e pent\u00f3xido de antim\u00f4nio s\u00e3o usados como retardantes de chama em pl\u00e1sticos ou tecidos, como catalisadores e tamb\u00e9m como aditivos na ind\u00fastria de vidro e cer\u00e2mica.<\/p>\n<p>O <strong>tri\u00f3xido de antim\u00f4nio<\/strong> \u00e9 amplamente utilizado na ind\u00fastria pl\u00e1stica, principalmente combinado com compostos org\u00e2nicos que possuem <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/portfolio-item\/cloro\/\" target=\"_blank\">cloro<\/a> ou bromo. Essa combina\u00e7\u00e3o de compostos \u00f3xidos de antim\u00f4nio, cloro e\/ou bromo \u00e9 uma das combina\u00e7\u00f5es mais eficazes para <strong>retardar a propaga\u00e7\u00e3o de fogo<\/strong>. O PVC, que \u00e9 um conhecido pl\u00e1stico que n\u00e3o propaga fogo, possui em sua composi\u00e7\u00e3o, \u00f3xido de antim\u00f4nio, que confere ao pl\u00e1stico a possibilidade de ser amplamente utilizado na ind\u00fastria automotiva e de constru\u00e7\u00e3o civil.<\/p>\n<p>Os <strong>\u00f3xidos de antim\u00f4nio<\/strong> tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o bastante utilizados quando se deseja que um pl\u00e1stico tenha propriedades anti propaga\u00e7\u00e3o de chamas. A vantagem dos \u00f3xidos de <strong>antim\u00f4nio<\/strong>, em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a outros aditivos retardantes \u00e9 a quantidade necess\u00e1ria para o mesmo efeito retardante. Ou seja, \u00f3xidos de antim\u00f4nio n\u00e3o alteram a resist\u00eancia f\u00edsica dos pl\u00e1sticos e n\u00e3o influenciam na transpar\u00eancia, como pode ocorrer com outros aditivos. J\u00e1 em tecidos, \u00e9 usado uma fina camada de \u00f3xido de antim\u00f4nio combinada com composto org\u00e2nico clorado ou bromado. Essa fina camada \u00e9 suficiente para n\u00e3o permitir que o tecido propague fogo.<\/p>\n<p>Tri\u00f3xido de antim\u00f4nio \u00e9 tamb\u00e9m usado como catalisador da rea\u00e7\u00e3o de polimeriza\u00e7\u00e3o que se obt\u00e9m o PET (polietileno tereftalato), que \u00e9 um <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/07\/13\/o-que-sao-polimeros\/\" target=\"_blank\">pol\u00edmero<\/a>\u00a0amplamente utilizado nos dias de hoje, seja em garrafas, fibras ou pel\u00edculas.<br \/>\nO \u00f3xido de antim\u00f4nio pode ainda ser utilizado como aditivo na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/w\/2015\/07\/20\/vidro-como-e-feito\/\" target=\"_blank\">vidros<\/a>, como agente desgaseificante e descolorante.
