No entanto, em setembro deste mesmo ano, um grupo de cientistas liderados por H. W. Kroto e R. E. Smalley lan\u00e7aram laser em grafite a mais de 104 \u00b0C e verificaram em espectrometria de massa que o produto continha uma s\u00e9rie de mol\u00e9culas com n\u00famero de \u00e1tomos de carbono de 44 a 90. A concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de mol\u00e9culas variava, mas a de 60 carbonos era a de maior destaque.<\/p>\n<p>Este experimento mostrou a descoberta da nova forma alotr\u00f3pica do carbono. Gra\u00e7as a este experimento, em 1996 Kroto, Smalley e Curl ganharam o pr\u00eamio Nobel de qu\u00edmica.<br \/>\nEm 1990, Wofgang Kratschmer, Nonal Huffman e outros, descreveram a primeira s\u00edntese e o isolamento do<span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"><strong> C<sub>60<\/sub><\/strong>.<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.quiprocura.net\/fulerenos_arquivos\/c60.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Este novo grupo de compostos, os <strong>fulerenos<\/strong>, \u00e9 considerado um grupo de <strong>compostos arom\u00e1ticos<\/strong>.<br \/>\nA denomina\u00e7\u00e3o <strong>fulereno<\/strong> \u00e9 uma homenagem ao arquiteto R. Buckminster Fuller que construiu e popularizou as c\u00fapulas geod\u00e9sicas, que usam o mesmo princ\u00edpio na apar\u00eancia.<\/p>\n<p>Os <strong>fulerenos<\/strong> s\u00e3o mol\u00e9culas estruturadas na forma de \u201cgaiolas\u201d, ou seja, elas t\u00eam a forma fechada em si. Os fulerenos s\u00e3o constitu\u00eddos por uma rede formada por pent\u00e1gonos e hex\u00e1gonos, fechando assim a &#8220;esfera&#8221;. Cada <strong>carbono<\/strong> de um fulereno est\u00e1 hibridizado em <strong>sp\u00b2<\/strong> e forma liga\u00e7\u00f5es sigma (liga\u00e7\u00e3o simples) com tr\u00eas outros \u00e1tomos de carbono, restando um el\u00e9tron de cada carbono, que fica deslocalizado num sistema de orbitais moleculares que atribui \u00e0 mol\u00e9cula o car\u00e1ter arom\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n<p>Os <strong>fulerenos<\/strong> possuem quantidades diferentes de \u00e1tomos de carbono, podendo ser formados por 20, 60, 70, 100, 180, 240 e at\u00e9 540 \u00e1tomos de carbono. \u00c9 comumente falado do <strong>C<sub>60<\/sub><\/strong> e tamb\u00e9m do <strong>C<sub>70<\/sub><\/strong>, pois estes foram os primeiros a serem descobertos e tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o os mais comuns, mas os outros tamb\u00e9m t\u00eam import\u00e2ncia na classe dos <strong>fulerenos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Os <strong>fulerenos<\/strong> como dito anteriormente, s\u00e3o estruturados na forma de &#8220;gaiolas&#8221;, ou esferas ocas, que s\u00e3o formadas por an\u00e9is de 5 e 6 \u00e1tomos de carbono, sendo estas estruturas bastante est\u00e1veis, sendo poss\u00edvel encontr\u00e1-las na natureza, como mais uma forma alotr\u00f3pica do carbono.<\/p>\n<p>Estes compostos possuem a capacidade de &#8220;aprisionar&#8221; \u00e1tomos ou mol\u00e9culas de gases em seus interiores. Um exemplo \u00e9 o aprisionamento do h\u00e9lio e do <a href=\"http:\/\/quiprocura.net\/wordpress\/portfolio-item\/ar-oxigenio-gas-nobre-ou-mistura-de-gases\/\" target=\"_blank\">arg\u00f4nio<\/a>\u00a0no interior de um tipo de <strong>fulereno<\/strong>, que foi encontrado, sendo que os gases guardavam todas as caracter\u00edsticas dos is\u00f3topos presentes.<\/p>\n<p>Para uma mol\u00e9cula &#8220;entrar&#8221; dentro da estrutura dos <strong>fulerenos<\/strong> \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio que ela possua uma determinada quantidade de energia, pois ela tem que romper a resist\u00eancia provocada pelos el\u00e9trons livres da estrutura. Quando estas mol\u00e9culas est\u00e3o no interior da estrutura, elas n\u00e3o conseguem mais sair.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.quiprocura.net\/fulerenos_arquivos\/c20.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"141\" height=\"144\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" \/>Quando ocorre a penetra\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00e1tomos de metais no interior dos fulerenos, ocorre ent\u00e3o a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de sais, os chamados, <strong>bucketos<\/strong>, que possuem faces met\u00e1licas.<\/p>\n<p>Os <strong>fulerenos<\/strong> purificados t\u00eam uma grande atratividade no que se refere \u00e0 cor. O <strong>C<sub>60<\/sub><\/strong>, por exemplo, \u00e9 um s\u00f3lido com cor de mostarda e quando dissolvido em solu\u00e7\u00e3o de hidrocarbonetos arom\u00e1ticos, como o benzeno, a solu\u00e7\u00e3o possui uma colora\u00e7\u00e3o magenta, avermelhada. J\u00e1 o <strong>C<sub>70<\/sub><\/strong> possui uma colora\u00e7\u00e3o marrom avermelhada e em solu\u00e7\u00e3o tem a cor vermelho vinho. O C<sub>76<\/sub>, C<sub>78<\/sub> e C<sub>84<\/sub> s\u00e3o amarelos.<\/p>\n<p>Atualmente muitos compostos de <strong>fulerenos<\/strong> s\u00e3o conhecidos e estudados, tais como os bucketos citados acima e os <strong>fulerois<\/strong>, C<sub>60<\/sub>(OH)n (n=24-26), entre outros compostos.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">*O texto e as figuras desta p\u00e1gina foram produzidos por Miguel A.
